๐ Google Search's AI Era | What's to Come for Communicators?
Discussing Google Search's AI Upheaval & Confusion
Welcome Back! ๐๐ผ
After breaking news, I had to start this week with Google's massive internal database breach that exposed some interesting and societal-impacting bugs. Then we get to the main event around how social change communicators should be thinking about Google Search right now. I offer SEO and paid search strategy considerations as AI makes the search landscape more uncertain. Read on for more...
I was already planning on writing about Google search today, but then a Google source leaked internal documents about some serious privacy issues. An internal database where Google employees reported privacy and other tech incidents. The list is long and filled from the mundane to society-level concerns. Here's a sampling:
- Google Street View was accidentally logging and storing license plate data from private vehicles
- The private financial data of employees and their families of a company that Google acquired was publicly available on the web for a year
- Numerous incidents of storing audio recordings of children's voices
- And so much more!
On the plus side, the fact that they have a database shows that Google is taking privacy seriously and logging these incidents. On the bad side, these reports reveal just how embedded Google is in our everyday lives as people and communicators.
AI Shakes Up the Search Landscape
The uncertainty of the media landscape has now landed on search! With AI coming onto the scene and being rolled out to Google Search and Google's advertising properties, it's a good time to talk about Google Search strategies from both an SEO (organic search) and SEM (paid search) perspective.
