Conversations Creating Change

Persuasion work to shift our collective world view away from harmful systems can be really challenging. It requires that we connect with and bring in folks we might not agree with. In our current social media era, division is much more profitable.

Over the last few months, both our newsletter for activists and communicators have been focused on persuading more people into our movement. While the coverage has been election focused, I offer these strategies because they can be universally used across our movement for change whether you are an individual volunteer or a large non-profit.

My conversation with Elizabeth Chur about her book offers many insights into shifting perceptions that lead to persuasion. Elizabethโ€™s direct conversations and the research behind motivational interviewing has helped her talk with hundreds of voters in the Central Valley, which sheโ€™s doing right now!

'The Joy of Talking Politics with Strangers: How to Save Democracy, One Conversation at a Time' is practical and beautifully written book to help folks use the power of conversation to create lasting change. I hope our conversation sparks some curiosities for your messaging strategies!
