Welcome back! ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ

Do you ever get frustrated trying to find good communications advice that applies to advocacy? There are hundreds of sources for consumer brands and B2B marketers with contextualized advice, analytics, and insights. Thatโ€™s simply where the most marketing money sits so it makes sense, but social change communicators deserve actionable and personalized advice too.

Today, Iโ€™m excited to share a new project my friend, Brit Holmes, and I have been working on! We are excited to announce a new ๐Ÿฝ lunch and learn ๐Ÿง series to help democratize communications advice. Read on for more...

Back in the day, advertising agencies hosted company-wide Lunch & Learn events to introduce new concepts and technology to support the continued learning of its people. They continue today but have become mostly about selling advertising services.

My friend, Brit Holmes, and I are not ones to do it the same old way. We're taking an advocacy lens to this concept to help democratize digital communications knowledge for organizations, campaigns, entrepreneurs, and activists working toward social change. This is not Don Draperโ€™s lunch and learn!

Set Yourself Up | 2024 Communications Goals & Tips

Starting in January, we will be hosting regular 45-minute lunch and learn events to share customized and actionable advice that helps you in your work.

  • โ€‹โœ… What it is: a conversation to feel more aligned with your work, reduce workload, get actional advice, and empower you!
  • โ€‹๐Ÿšซ What it isnโ€™t: another lunch and learn where you walk away feeling overwhelmed.

โ€‹What to Expect

โ€‹Join us for our inaugural lunch & learn! We will be easing into 2024, a big year for advocacy, and talking about micro and macro ways to set our communications up for success next year.

Wednesday, January 10th starting at 12:30 pm EST/9:30 am PST

  • โ€‹Introductions & Overviews (5 minutes)
  • โ€‹Lunch & Learn topic (15 minutes): explore a comms topic and offer advice on mini-weekly boosts (micro) and larger time savers (macro)
  • โ€‹Q&A session (10-15 minutes): holding space to talk about your current challenges

Our goal is to provide a space to be in community with fellow communicators, learn from others, set everyone up for success, and share accountability for others, ourselves, and the movement.

If youโ€™re already a paid subscriber to this newsletter, you will get additional resources and follow-ups after each session. Upgrade here.

  • ๐Ÿ“š Read. Social Mediaโ€™s Decay - The fragmentation of social media continues with Metaโ€™s decision to not allow cross-posts or messaging on Instagram and Facebook. This decision will make it harder to manage multiple social platforms at once.

    • ๐Ÿค“The Root๐ŸŒฑ - Planning and developing a social strategy with established messaging pillars will set you up to save time in the future. A social media management platform can be expensive, but worth it to save hours each week posting on social media. Evaluate your bandwidth and resources to determine if the investment is worth planning more consistently and strategically.

  • ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿฝโ€๐Ÿ’ป Research. TikTokโ€™s Ad Performance - TikTok released a new advertising report showing TikTok ads are helping with sales for brands in Canada more than ever. Effectiveness is up by 58% since 2021 and TikTok was 1.6x more efficient and effective than Linear TV.

    • ๐Ÿค“The Root๐ŸŒฑ - Use the data we have available. There is more data on for-profit brandsโ€™ digital marketing than advocacy groups. This tells me that more people are using TikTok to take action than a few years ago. For advocacy this means, testing out more action-oriented posts on TikTok (sign a petition, join an event, etc.).

And that's a wrap on this weekโ€™s newsletter! We hope you found this newsletter helpful in your work. If you have any topics you want covered or have any questions, please โ€‹reach outโ€‹ to let us know.

In Solidarity,
Sam Chavez
