SHIP for a Safer Political Environment

You may have noticed that there wasnโt a shiny new Knurdology newsletter in your inbox this morning.
I promise I have a good excuse!
I was driving to Sacramento to host a press conference for a new organization called SHIP, Stop Sexual Harassment in Politics.
Over this year, I have gotten to know Ruth Ferguson as a joyful, smart, and passionate woman who also happens to be a victim of sexual harassment when she was a young political staffer.
In April she went public about her experience and how the sexual harassment and assault group, the Workplace Conduct Unit, meant to protect and support her failed her and allowed her harasser to remain in good standing in California political circles to this day. Since then, she has organized a group of powerful women to found SHIP, including myself, and put pressure on elected leaders to enact real change and accountability.
I have been so proud of Ruthโs resolve and conviction to stand up and call out the hypocrisy that occurs in politics on a daily basis.
For too long, politics has been an unsafe work environment for women, LGTBQ+ people, and people of color. We need real accountability if we ever want Californiaโs elected leaders and staffers to be truly representative of the people that live in this great state.
I am so proud to be able to stand up and support victims and call for real accountability.
I hope you take some time to watch our press conference and hear Ruth and Faithโs words as victims who are able to speak out for all victims who feel silenced or scared to speak up.
