Instagram might have announced a ton of new algorithmic updates to entice back smaller organizations and creators as TikTok continues to steal share, but theyโ€™re not the only ones. In fact, we live in a sea of constant updates to social mediaโ€™s algorithms, design, and user experience.

My friend asked me this week how I keep up and I told him that I canโ€™t! Actually, Iโ€™m at the stage of social media where I wonder if we even need to keep up anymore?

As social change communicators, we do need to understand how social media is evolving, what kinds of content will resonate with the audience weโ€™re wanting to talk to, and how all of this posting will help. From an opportunity cost? It seems like a waste to keep up with every little algorithmic change. Instead, I think social change communicators can build core foundational strategies that allow us to adapt to algorithms, grow, and connect, while living up to our values.
