๐ Alternatives to AI that Save Time to Stay Human
The Roots of the Assault on Mainstream Media
Welcome Back! ๐๐ผ
Today we touch the big thing, artificial intelligence. The news is growing about an impending AI bubble, which has everything to do with spending billions on a mediocre product that sucks our planet dry. When working with AI, we are less human and creative. So instead, I want to offer solutions to burnout and saving time with your work that are not AI. Read on for more...

What is AI, Really?!
On the road, I found that our zines were the best way to share the complexity that is our tech and media world. People across the country understand that our media and tech are off, but aren't sure what to do about it. Our zines are designed to share the root of our issues in an informative & fun way coupled with suggestions on taking action within our lives and organizations. If you're looking to educate your audiences about tech and media today, consider using our zines!
- Share at your organizing meetings as a starting point for discussion on our relationships with tech & media
- Print and add to your favorite neighborhood library (I left a few in libraries in Chicago, North Carolina, Texas, & more!)
- Give them out to your friends & family to help with your relational organizing

AI Alternatives: Saving Time & Saving the Planet
It's becoming fairly well known that artificial intelligence takes a lot of water and energy. The problem is less awareness and more about attitude and behavior change. We're in peak convenience culture and many see AI as a shortcut to saving time in an increasingly overcrowded world. Overwhelm and burnout are nearly universal and most don't have time to what we used to call leisure time.
It makes sense. Mariame Kaba described it as concierge society and explained how it's bleeding into our personal relationships too on the Love in a F***ed Up World podcast with Dean Spade. The pandemic and intersecting crisis have made our lives even more chaotic and stretched.
As I described in this week's podcast episode, I've only ever found AI to take a lot of time for something mediocre. I prefer the human stuff! But that still leaves the problem of overwhelm and little free time. Today, we're digging into time saving solutions that won't hurt the planet and help you stay human while you're doing your work. I'm considering a workshop on this topic, give this post a thumbs up if you'd be interested in joining.
