Hey Y'all! ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ

Working at advertising agencies for 15+ years taught me the value of education & skills sharing for communicators.

Most communicators get thrown into the deep end. We're expected to know EVERYTHING and also be available at a moments notice. We are the last line of defense for the organization/candidate. We define the "brand." When something goes wrong, it's our mess to clean. We get the press release out at 2am. We're the ones the exec team can blame. We are experts in social media, cyber security, messaging strategy, vibe coding, community organizing, statistics, film editing, public relations, political messaging, psychology, corporate marketing, media behavior, CRMs, SEO, SEM, and more.

Record scratch. WTF?

You're a human being. How can you possibly be all that and a bag of chips?

Self-Sustaining is Our Goal

You shouldn't. And in 2025, it's time we reject the need for us all to be experts at everything. It's impossible! Perfection is a prize that's constantly out of reach and it only feeds white supremacy.

So let's reject perfectionism for communal communications.

Back in the day, advertising agencies had learning series and lunch & learns to deepen skills and understand the latest technologies and strategies. But then Big Tech took over and all hell broke lose.

Big Tech scooped up our data, time, and attention and sold their extraction back to us as free services. Overtime, THEY became the education. Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, and more gave us their version of education with free courses & more, which is to say how to make them profit.

In the post-pandemic era, everyone is expected to be a communications expert and know everything without ever admitting that you don't know. We all became self-righteous experts about everything tech, media, and communications without realizing it. But what are we truly experts in?

The Big Tech approach to marketing.

I reject that.

We deserve healthy tech, media, & communications education and I intend to do that for the long-haul. However, I can't do it without support. Most nonprofits and organizations spend their professional development on conferences and trips where the lessons don't always come back to be practically helpful in their work.

Why not use some of that budget for ongoing learning at just $10/month?

Unlock Ongoing Resources & Support

In today's nonprofit & political worlds, we should not do everything alone. We deserve help and heart-first care. That's why the roots of change agency exists.

I HATE asking for money and I HATE pitching myself and our work and I also KNOW we can't do this work inside capitalism without it.

The truth is we might not be able to do this work much longer. Donald Trump systematically targeted progressive non-profits this year, but so have many within the Democratic Party. Doing things differently is not always popular, but it is sometimes needed. We're at an inflection point where we need new visions. Will you become a member today and help us sustain this work for the long-haul?
