๐ Does Substack Sabotage & Limit Our Movements?
Leaving Substack for Secure & Independent Publishing
Welcome Back! ๐๐ผ
I'm very excited to release my conversation with Sharon Hurley Hall about our experience leaving Substack in 2022 and how it's only gotten worse since then. As more creators and especially activists still continue to join Substack, it's on us to help folks move to healthier alternatives and understand the harms to ourselves, our movements, & our content. Ghosting Substack for Healthy Platforms
As soon as Substack started platforming Nazis, I knew it was time to GTFO! Sharon Hurley Hall and I both signed an open letter with other journalists and creators expressing our concern for the founder's choices.
After numerous security concerns and microaggressions on their social platform, we began discussing our plans to leave Substack and where we were going. She chose beehiiv and I chose Ghost. Browse our most popular article about our experiences with leaving Substack for independent publishing:

Substack's Nazi Problems Are Just the Beginning
When we left Substack, Sharon and I strategized together to try out independent publishing platforms that care about creator independence & privacy for its readers. Sharon has thrived on beehiiv, while I have built our media ecosystem on Ghost. Today, we are witnessing another rise in creators, writers, & activists join Substack without being aware of the harms to their content, their audience, & themselves.
In June, Sharon & I hopped on the Live! to discuss how Substack harms and why it's crucial for our movements to shift to healthy, secure platforms. Here's a preview of our live conversation with a special audience of Seedling members.
