Welcome Back! ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿผ

Have you heard the news?! Okayโ€ฆ.yes that news, but I meant to talk about the TikTok ban that Congress passed and Joe Biden quickly signed on April 23rd under the cover of all the other shenanigans (take action). But first, letโ€™s talk about that news. Read on for more...

๐Ÿ“ฃ Breaking! ๐Ÿšจ Florida Orange Man Might Go to Jail

Unless youโ€™ve been on airplane mode or in the woods (jealous!), youโ€™ve heard that the twice-impeached former President Donald Trump has been convicted of 34 of 34 felony charges by a jury of everyday Americans. Is that accountability in the air?

We must ensure the orange man and his accomplices never reach the White House again. Regardless of any feelings about the current President's actions, we cannot let the current GOP entrench its fascist ideology further.

I recommend having talking points ready to speak to the major topics of this election if your work touches electoral politics in any way. Including and especially the criminality of one of the presidential candidates. At the end of the day, who is in the White House next year will decide the outcome of many of the major social justice issues we all work to combat and it's our role to ensure we can keep working towards a liberatory world.

Messaging Guide Against Fascism

Yesterday, a jury of everyday Americans convicted twice-impeached former President Donald Trump for subverting the 2016 election by paying hush money to Stormy Daniels. At every step, he and his GOP cronies have tried to subvert our democracy for their own gain. This week shows that everyday people can be the heroes that we need in this moment. Our efforts over the next five months will determine the outcome of the election and the future of the social justice issues we fight for every day. It's all about the margin of effort

I highly recommend checking out the updated Freedom Over Fascism toolkit from Anat Shenker Osorio & the ASO Communications team for new messaging, talking points, and dos and donโ€™ts in the New York Bragg Trial Jury Verdict section. We can all amplify and share this win!

Tik-tac-No More Shame in Congress

Itโ€™s well known that our elected leaders are on the geriatric side. Our Congress is 65 years old on average and our current president is 81 and will be 86 at the end of a potential second term. I do not bring this up for any reason other than to point out that tech is not their strong suit.

I love my Boomer friends, but having only Boomers run our government when tech leaders are young and savvy is a recipe for no regulation and consumer exploitation. This is especially true when the leaders in our government seem to be saying the quiet part out loud. Just listen to Nancy Pelosiโ€™s super trendy take on the TikTok ban thatโ€™s not a ban.

Where does Rep. Nancy Pelosi stand on a bill aimed at TikTok? Just check out her reference to tic-tac-toe. #tiktokban
